Geocache Description:

My first Cache, placed after just over a year from starting to Geocache.

Placed for the start of a New Year when many people are deciding on new starts or directions in their lives.

This location marks a cross point where there are additional caches in a number of directions, so which way now?

At the path Junction where the Byway meets the Old DN&SR (Didcot, Newbury & Southampton Railway) route, this cache is a good size with plenty of space for swappable’s, Coins or TB's.  I have started off with a good selection of swaps and a TB to put into circulation, the cache contained a pencil upon placement.

The area is high in Muggle use with walkers, dog walkers, runners and troops conducting fitness; therefore please exercise discretion when locating and replacing the cache.

At time of placing the area was very muddy due to the recent rain, during summer the routes are good for pushchairs with sturdy wheels.  Great cross country runs or for muddy cycling during the winter.

Which way now?

To the South: The old DN&SR line footpath leads to the old Worthy Down Halt Station Platform, a historical feature which remains standing (Note: tree and scrub removal taking place at time of cache placing).  This feature stands close to Worthy Down camp which is in use as a training establishment by all 3 services of the H.M.Forces.  This line continues as a nice walk into Kings Worthy.

To the West: Old Torpedo Sheds of the Worthy Down site (please take caution in this area and obey the signs placed out by the MOD).  Along this route there is also access to a great children’s play park located at South Wonston.

Whilst in this area why not also check out the historic Pill Boxes that are located all around area, many have been cleared by volunteers so that they can be viewed; there is believed to be 32 in total that guarded the camp.  I would advise not to enter them even if they are accessible.

Either way you choose I’m sure you will enjoy the walks, the views and the history contained in this area.
