The castle was built in the 16th Century by Hugh Maguire who ruled Fermanagh. From this castle, the Maguires exercised control over their territory.
It was later remodelled and refurbished by Captain William Cole in 1607, and at this time the iconic Watergate was added.
The castle is now home to the Fermanagh County Museum, which focuses on the county's history, culture and natural history.
The castle also houses the Inniskillings Museum, which is the regimental museum of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers and the 5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards - Enniskillen being the only town in the British Isles which raised two regiments.
At the cache site, there are a few picnic tables. From here, you can also see Castle Island and its Millenium Beacon.
The cache is a small tupperware container containing, when placed, a few goodies.
