Geocache Description:

35mm film pot carefully hidden

Those living locally may recall when the Electricity Transfer Station was first established and a huge earth bank was thrown up to hide the site.  At the time it must have seems an eysore, but the bank was planted with native trees which now largely hide the bank.  In the last 30 years the site has steadily expanded until now about 75% of the available area is occupied with switch gear. A comparison of the satelite images on Google Earth in 2000 and 2010 will show just how much has changed.  Interestingly, since the land is undisturbed, there are some interesting flora present, and at the right time of year, much of the bank is covered with Pyramidal Orchids.  If you are walking round the site when switching is taking place, you will hear the alarms which sound very like those of the alien ships in Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Very eerie, but no alien lights. The view from the top of the bank is impressive, and comes as a surprise to those who do not know the station is there.

The cache, containg a log and pencil, is placed at chest hight on a permissive footpath that goes along part of the bank and is accessed either from the Redcoats end (T1) or from St Ipollyts (T2).  Parking is much easier at T2.  The footpath is muddy in winter and overgrown in summer, so come prepared.  Approaching from T1, the cache is in the corner where the path turns sharp right uphill, while when coming from T2 it is in the corner where the path turns left at the bottom of the slope.  DO NOT try to access the GZ from the Redcoats/St Ibbs road which runs quite close; the fence is covered in barbed wire and other snags.  Since the terain can be difficult, it is not advisable to try to do this cache at night unless you are well prepared.  The slope near the cache is very treacherous in wet or icy conditions.
