Tully Castle was built for Sir John Hume, a Scottish planter in 1619. During the Irish rebellion of 1641, Rory Maguire set out to recapture his family's land and arrived on Christmas Eve, with the castle only full of women and children as most of the men were away.
After being tricked into safe passage for all those in the castle, the occupants were killed on Christmas day. The castle was burnt and the Humes did not return.
The castle ruins are impressive, as is the well cared for garden at the front of the ruin.
There is no admission charge to the castle and you may also wish to visit the small visitors centre.
There is also a pleasant lakeside path around the shores of Lower Lough Erne. A public jetty is also provided.
The cache itself is a small tupperware box containing when placed a few small goodies.
