The castle was built in 1612 during the plantation by Thomas Blemerhassett.
The castle ruins are overgrown but still an imposing sight from within. There are a number of well marked trails (which pass other caches) around the castle estate which run along the waterside and through the forest.
As you enter into the grounds you will pass the ruined church and graveyard with gravestones of the Caldwell family who bought the castle in 1662.
At the far end of the estate is Rossergole point, which was used by the Lord and lady for afternoon tea, the servants having carted everything required from the castle.
The cache itself it a bottle-top type container hidden just off the path between the castle above you, and the lough to your North. The track is suitable for wheels with only mild elevation changes, but the last few feet to access the cache are off the path and steep. Therefore care should be taken with small children. Please replace the cache and cover carefully as found.
