What is now the public park of Castle Archdale, once was an estate owned by the Archdale family who arrived in 1614 during the Plantation. The original castle, where this cache can be found, was destroyed twice - first during the Irish Rebellion in 1641 and then again in the Williamite wars, in 1689.
Later, in the 18th Century, a replacement mansion was built further South in the estate, although this is no longer standing. All that now remains of the mansion itself is an outline of where the house used to stand, and the courtyard and related outbuildings which now house the visitors centre and tearooms.
The cache is a small tupperware container, containing when placed, a few small goodies.
