The Jungle Book
This collection of stories was written by Rudyard Kipling and published in 1894. The stories have animals that can think and talk like humans and they teach moral lessons. The most popular and well-known story involves Mowgli, the human that was raised by the animals in the jungle. The animals care for him and protect him from the dangers of the jungle. Mowgli eventually goes back and lives in the human village but then brings trouble upon them as the tiger Shere Kahn is after him. The two other most popular stories are about Rikki-Tikki-Tavi, a mongoose that saves his owners from cobras, and Toomai of the Elephants, a boy who wishes to be an elephant handler.
I enjoyed The Jungle Book, probably because my family often read Rudyard Kipling’s Just So Stories to me when I was even younger. We even named our first cat Rikki-Tikki-Tavi. Kipling was able to make the characters fun and interesting while describing life in India and the jungle. The setting is just so different than my own that it was very intriguing. To find this cache you're going to need to think like Bagheera or Kaa and go up. You will probably either need a boost from a friend or a stepladder. This is a really high-traffic place, especially when the weather is nice, so please keep this in mind.
About this series
When I initially sat down and started writing down the titles of classic children’s books I soon found a very long list. I decided to limit myself to some that are books that I actually read when I was a child, most of which I read several times, and loved. I still had a hard time narrowing down my search. There are so many fabulous books out there and the classics are still read for a reason, they’re great literature! So dust off your library card and go check out some of these wonderful books. I am initially hiding 9 caches for the Waukesha Janboree and it was not easy to only choose 9 classic books. Maybe you could include in your log whether or not you’ve read the book and what you took away from it.
Don’t forget to write down the number inside of this cache to help you find the “To Kill a Mockingbird” puzzle cache GC4W8H5.
This cache was hidden for the 2014 Waukesha Janboree. Permission has been given by the Waukesha City Parks and Rec for the placement of this geocache. Please be respectful of the environment and remember that this is a very high traffic area and you will need to be stealthy so that the geocache isn’t muggled.
