Geocache Description:

Welcome to Bald Knob in the U.S. Forest Service's Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area.  You will be looking for a camouflaged pre-formed bottle with log and pencil.

Bald Knob, at an elevation of 570 feet, is one the highest points and most remote locations in LBL.  At one time an observation tower was located nearby.  The Bald Knob Fire Tower was built in 1937 by the CCC on the Kentucky Woodlands National Wildlife Refuge and managed by the state forestry division. The 80' Aermotor tower with 7'x7' metal cab is now located just east of the Golden Pond Visitor Center on the south side of U.S. Highway 68-Kentucky Highway 80 (N 36° 46.800' W 088° 03.500').  It is on the National Historic Lookout Register, No. US 831, KY 7.

Very few venture down FR152.  This road can at times (wet) be tricky to navigate.  Please gauge your vehicle's capabilites carefully.  There are two approaches:

1) From the Trace (KY486) - take Jenny Ridge Road (FR153) east and turn right at the intersection with Energy Road (FR145).  Proceed to the right at the intersection with FR144.  Shortly on the left you will see FR152.  This tends to be the longer but VERY MUCH DRYER option.

2) From Energy Lake Road (FR134) - Proceed west directly onto FR 152.  This tends to be the shorter but WETTER/OVERGROWN/TRICKIER option.


1. Geocache is placed on LBL managed property with permission.

2. It is the visitors responsibility to orient themselves with policies and rules pertaining to this Department managed site.
