(GCF) 5000 Days Later
This Geocache was hidden and Published exactly 5000 days after GCF was hidden by Dave Ulmer
If you do not know what GCF is, it was the First Geocache ever hidden, you can find it here
The Original Stash
History of the Original Stash
On May 3, 2000, a five-gallon bucket was hidden by Dave Ulmer containing a Delorme Topo USA,
2 CD Roms, a cassette recorder, a "George of the Jungle" VHS tape,
a Ross Perot book, 4 $1 bills, a slingshot handle and a pretty notorious can of beans (actually Black-eyed peas) (now the O.C.B. trackable).
The coordinates were then listed on the internet and modern-day geocaching was born.
This was what Dave Ulmer wrote on the sci.geo.satellite-nav newsgroup where he let the world know about his idea.

Subject: GPS Stash Hunt... Stash #1 is there!
Well, I did it, created the first stash hunt stash and here are
the coordinates:
N 45 17.460
W122 24.800
Lots of goodies for the finders. Look for a black plastic bucket
buried most of the way in the ground. Take some stuff, leave
some stuff! Record it all in the log book. Have Fun!
Stash contians: Delorme Topo USA software, videos, books, food,
money, and a slingshot!
The first finder of that first cache was Mike Teague who took the money and left some cigarettes, a cassette tape and a pen.
That original bucket was severely damaged by an Oregon road crew mower and is no longer around.
TEAM 360 and other concerned geocachers recognized the importance of the event that happened here
and dedicate this Original Stash Tribute Plaque on behalf of cachers everywhere.

Although my geocache is not a large Bucket
it does contain all the cool stuff Dave Ulmer put in his,
I hope when you find it, you can sit a bit and reflect on how you have enjoyed
this wonderful, game, sport, yes addiction we call Geocaching.
HEY WAIT JUST 1 MINUTE HERE !!!!
Why was the First Geocache (The Original Stash) not GC#1 ?
From the information I can gather, here is why.
Since the Geocaching.com database didn't go online until October of 2000,
I would guess that there was a large group of caches that were entered into the database at random.
Then, once the system went live and started accepting caches online, they started sequentially from there.
When TPTB started creating the database they entered all the Washington caches first and then the Oregon caches.
That is why the Original Cache was GCF
Happy hunting everyone
And Happy 5000th Birthday Geocaching
