Geocache Description:

Pt Pirie 81 - Sea Angel

Commissioned in 2006 the Sea Angel is a 2700 Series Noosa Cat measuring 27ft (8.3m) which is powered by two 225hp engines. It is one of the search and rescue vessels dotted around the Spencer Gulf. It is crewed by volunteers from the Port Pirie SES unit & while it primarily responds to calls for assistance around the Port Pirie area, it can respond anywhere within the Spencer Gulf to assist other, closer, marine rescue vessels.

The old boat sitting in the garden is from one call for assistance the unit received. The boat had broken away from its mooring and was going on its own little adventure where it unfortunately received some damage causing it to take on water. The Sea Angel responded to retrieve the boat so that it wouldn’t be a hazard to others and returned it back to Port Pirie. The owner no longer wanted the boat and it found a new home here in the garden so it wouldn’t go on any more adventures by itself. **Please be aware that some of the flooring within the boat has broken away over the years, so please keep an eye on any children with you. Work is planned to refloor the old boat to allow it to be climbed over once again.*

The unit is aware of the cache and they train on Tuesday nights, so expect a bit of activity around during this time. At all other times, feel free to make use of the car park while you find the cache. But be aware that people may turn up without warning to respond to an incident.

Permission has been given for this cache to be placed and feel free to contact the SES North Region HQ on 8633 3811 if questioned
