Il Santuario Madonna di Monte, situato nei dintorni del paese di Sommacampagna, risale al XII secolo, anche se non si conosce la data di costruzione esatta. All’interno (che non è visitabile) si trova l’altare maggiore in marmo pregiato e datato 1712, sul quale vi è un affresco della Madonna che porta in braccio il Bambino. Sempre dentro il santuario è possibile vedere un quadro che raffigura l’Assunta con San Francesco, Sant’Antonio e San Bonaventura, segno che proprio San Francesco fece tappa nel paese di Sommacampagna e nel medesimo Santuario. Questo è anche simbolo, secondo alcune voci del passato, che proprio in questo luogo in tempi remoti, vi fu la permanenza di alcuni Frati Minori che custodirono il Santuario.

The Madonna di Monte Sanctuary is located near the town of Sommacampagna. It was built in the XII century, although the precise date of constrction is not known. Within the church (which is not possible to visit) the main altar is decorated with marble tiles and dated 1712: over it there is a fresco of the Madonna with the Child in her arms. Always within the sanctuary you can see a painting of the Assumption with St. Francis, St. Anthony and St. Bonaventure: this may be a sign that St. Francis stopped in the village of Sommacampagna. According to some voices from the past, this can also mean that this place hosted some Friars Minor.
