Geocache Description:

Downtown Monterey is itself a California Historic Park. This cache will take you around to a few significant locations to the beginnings of Monterey and California.

Not many people realize that Monterey is a State Historical Park for California. The downtown areas have adobes scattered about, dating back to the late 1700s (Revolutionary War times). This geocache will take you on a walking tour of Monterey along the Path of History. If at all you feel you are off track, simply look down at your feet, and locate a yellow disc in the sidewalk. These discs say 'Path of History' around the seal of Monterey in a variety of languages. If one doesn't appear within 30 ft, then you're off course.

Take your time with this cache. Rushing through it, you'll most likely miss all the little intricacies of each location. There are little known facts on each of the info boards that you might find interesting!

At the posted coordinates you will find a map. This map highlights 12 locations around Monterey. Each location has a letter corresponding to one of the questions. From here, you can decide which order you want to visit each location. There is also a map on the related web page, although it displays more locations than what you need to solve this multi-cache. Bring a camera along with you to take photos of the spots and of you as you tour around Monterey (tourist in your own town?). Either way, enjoy your stroll and/or bike around town!

Some areas have gardens behind/alongside them. It isn't necessary to go in them to answer the questions, however they do offer a piece of solitude and benches to rest your feet.

A = Third digit in the year that this plaque commemorates
B = Diagonally, number of complete pieces of bone that make up width of the sidewalk. (nearby sign may assist you)
C = Number of rows of bricks between the front door and the window?
D = At the site of the original flagstaff there is a plaque. The second month that is mentioned converted to a number.
E = How many drinks was enough... (finish reading the poem. It's... interesting... for a public location)
F = Locate the bell from the 1906 earthquake in San Francisco. Number of small square bricks it would take to span the distance between the gravel 'path' to the bell and the closest planter box.
G = Number of words in the sign on the second floor balcony
H = Number of large tiles across the bottom step, outside the gate. (each fills a 'spot' by itself)
I = Second digit in the year this house was built.
J = Number of windows around the green-framed door. (They have green frames too)
K = Across the upstairs balcony there are doors. Number of panes of glass in each door.
L = Number of letters in red outline to the left of the flower on sign (look closely)
