San Francisco de Asis is the patron saint of Santa Fe, the Royal City of the Holy Faith of St Francis. The sculptor Andrea (Drew) Bacigalupa lives in Santa Fe and created this sculpture of the patron saint with a prairie dog in 1980. I came across the pair for the first time on a bitterly cold winter day, and some kind soul had thoughtfully wrapped a little red scarf around the prairie dog's neck. In Santa Fe only 1 percent of the original prairie dog population still exists.
