Geocache Description:

It's that time of year once again. Yes, it's Spring Fling! Once again, we will be at Boyd Pond Park.

The park is located at 373 Boyd Pond Rd. Aiken, SC 29803

The park is 210 acres and has over 2 miles hiking/biking trails, 4 baseball fields, a 30 acre pond, an observatory and an RC track. The park is pet friendly.

We will be at shelter #1 in the main area of the park, if the storm debris is cleared and the main park is open. If the main park is closed, we will be at shelter #4, which is by the soccer fields and the park office (see reference point). An announcement will be made a day or so prior to the event as to which shelter we will use. Near shelter #1 is a large open field, a volleyball court and a basketball court. Shelter #4 has an large field, a soccer field and volleyball net.

Please come out and join us in the park for a day of fun and activities.

We will be providing hot dogs (and hamburgers) for everyone. We are asking that everyone bring a side dish. Some ideas for side dishes include baked beans, coleslaw, potato salad, potato chips, drinks and desserts. In your "will attend" log, please note what you plan to bring, along with the number of adults and children attending in your party. We will periodically update the cache page so everyone can easily see what is being brought and by whom.

We have several games planned throughout the day - including a 3-legged race, trivia games, several "minute to win it" style games, and of course Capture the Flag.

The food will be served late afternoon, so please plan accordingly, particularly for items that need to be kept cool.

We'll start the day around 1 PM. We'll hang around until 7 PM or until the last person decides to leave. We do have to vacate the park before dark though!

Here is a general outline of the days activities
  • 1-2 - Meet, greet, hand out trivia cards
  • 2-3:30 - Capture the Flags*, other activities (for those who do not wish to participate in Capture the Flags)
  • 3:30-4:30 - Games, prepare food, caching*
  • 4:30-5:30 - food will be served
  • 5:30-6:30 - trivia, caching*
  • 6:30-7 - prizes and announcements
*tentative based on ice storm debris cleanup efforts

Please post your "will attend" log by Thursday, May 1. That will allow us enough time to get the hot dogs and hamburgers. If you post after that day, we cannot guarantee we will have enough food.
