Welcome to our first Geocaching Trail - The Cabell County/Huntington Geotrail, sponsored by the Cabell Huntington Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB). This trail will take you on a tour of Cabell County including the towns of Huntington, Barboursville, and Milton to name a few.
The trail officially kicks off at 11:00 am March 15, 2014 and will include 15 geocache sites of which you must find 12 in the Cabell County/Huntington area of WV. Handouts will be given out between noon and 1 pm at the CVB and computers to download the listings. The caches will be published soon after and be available online. We will have 3 geocaches that are mandatory and are of special interest to our county residents, including one that recognizes the Marshall Memorial. There will be various types of geocaches to experience, including traditionals, unknowns, multis, a letterbox, a Wherigo, and two Earthcaches!
Each site will have a code word to collect to fill in on your geocaching scorecard, which will be handed out at noon. For those that like a headstart, one cache with a code word will be released at the Cabell County Friday Night Event. When these scorecards are turned into the CVB for verification, you will be asked to fill out a short information card and receive a Cabell County trackable geocoin at geocaching.com (available to the first 200 finders, one per team and household please). Permission has been granted for each site. Some sites will contain SWAG.
At the kickoff, there will be food and prizes (one door prize will be a GPS), time for visiting, travelbug trading and exchanging, photos, instructions, tips for the trail and even a newbie/muggle class. So if you know nothing about Geocaching or would like to bring a muggle, we will happily teach you about our outdoor GPS addiction and help you set up a free account. Stop in anytime during the day for classes or information, we will be there to help.

Our third event is published too - GC4X63R - Cache N Cabell CITO at Harris Riverfront Park.
Make an entire weekend of it. There's plenty to do and see in Cabell County, so pick up a free visitor's guide with map at the CVB to help you get around. Search for more exciting and unique caches that are already here. We will have a list of fun and interesting local geocaches at the kickoff events for you to explore. We have three of the West Virginia Civil War Geocaches in Cabell County as well (zone 5). Explore over 40 caches in Barboursville Park, which spans over 750 acres. Whether its hiking, historical, or creative type caches you enjoy, you won't have to search long - in Cabell County, WV.
