Geocache Description:

With this cache you are getting views of your taxes at work twice: the electrification of the metropolitan rail network and the works done to separate the goods line from the Seaford line.

This picture is before electric trains, before diesel trains and before personal safety was a big concern. Note the people standing on the tracks, the person on the tram bridge and the people hanging off the signal gantry!! Ah for the good ol' days!

The South Australian Government committed $110 million to the first stage of a joint state and federal government funded $443 million project (which includes future work at Torrens Junction).  The Goodwood Junction Upgrade separated the freight and Belair passenger lines from the Seaford (formerly Noarlunga) line. Construction of a rail underpass near Victoria Street lowers the Seaford line below ground level, with the freight and Belair lines above.

The Seaford and Tonsley lines are the first to be electrified as part of the revitalisation of Adelaide's rail network. The Belair line is unlikely to ever be electrified as there is insufficient clearance in the tunnels further along the line.

The Belair and Noarlunga lines were closed in early 2013 at the beginning of the works. The freight line remained open through-out the junction upgrade, only being closed for several short periods to allow for the track realignment. The Belair line reopened in mid 2013. The Seaford line reopened to diesel trains in late 2013. As at mid February 2014 electric trains are not running on the Seaford line.

As part of the project Brownhill Creek was realigned. Can you find the original course of the creek and the new course of the creek?

The provided coordinates will have you standing on the eastern platform of the Goodwood Railway Station. From here you can see into the 'tunnel' for the Seaford line. You will also be able to find the information required to find the cache which is located a short distance away.

A = the number of poles supporting the overhead wires on the right hand side of the track between the end of the platform and the 'tunnel'.

B = the number of tracks going into the 'tunnel'.

CDE = the number on the stop light to the left of the leftmost track.

F = the number of bolts at the base of one poles on the platform supporting the overhead wires.

The cache can be found at S34 C (A+D) . B (D+F) (B+F) E138 D (A +E) . E (D+F) (A-E).

Checksum:

South minutes and decimals = 31

East minutes and decimals =21
