Geocache Description:

One of a pair of simple caches set to coincide with the local BBH event Bordering on a Breakthrough, marking the owner’s breakthrough into his second decade of geocaching.

The cache is not at the published coordinates, which are for the first stage of your quest. Parking is available close by.

In order to locate the cache, you need to take a short tour of the village, and call at three locations which many English villages have in common. These can be visited in any order.

The Pub - Q1
This public house was first opened in 1783, and is currently under the management of the 27th landlord since then. You should be standing next to the pub sign, where you need to find the values for B and C.

The Church - Q2
The current Victorian parish church of St Mary the Virgin replaces the former (now demolished) medieval building which was out of the village to the south, site of Dan’s Forgotten Souls (GC7A5A) . Find the grave of Flying Officer H N Thomas RAF. What day was he killed? 2Eth June 1941.

Trefoils and quatrefoils are a feature of the architecture here in windows and other features, but check round the building to find how many cinquefoil windows there are. Let this value be F.

The School - Q3
The first record of a school in the village dates from 1819, when there were just six pupils. The current Combined School has about 220 pupils, and incorporates a special Hearing Impaired Unit. While you’re here you might like to do the nearby Village Signs #11 (GC4B0AJ), which won’t take you long!

But back to this cache; standing in front of the original building, you should see four words engraved in the decorated stone façade of the gable facing the road. Take the second letter of the first word and convert this to a single numeral in the normal way (A=1...Z=6). Call this A. Now take the fifth letter of the third word and do likewise. This value is D

The cache is at N 51° 47.ABC W 0° 47.DEF
