Geocache Description:

A historical site that also shows the natural forces of nature in Cayman Brac.

Rebecca’s Cave is named after the infant daughter of Raib and Helena Bodden who died of exposure when the family sought shelter in the cave during the Great Hurricane of November 9, 1932. The family reached the cave on the south face by following a trail from the north shore which still exists today. Rebecca was buried in the cave in a traditional stone above ground coffin. Since the caves are so porous, while they protect people from the winds and driving rains of the hurricane, there is no protection from the cold and wetness which the child succumbed to.
