Geocache Description:

The Moorish Idol, Zanclus comutus ("crowned scythe"), is a small marine fish species, the sole extant representative of the family Zanclidae in order Perciformes.

Another Kayak-only cache in Lake Merced, the Moorish Idol is our contribution to this fun hobby. We've patiently waited for a local to be archived in order to find space for this one.   You are looking for a small ice-cream container, in camo-tape, hanging from the Tully reeds with 50-lb test line.  This is a clump/cluster of reeds in a self-contained island just offshore.

A common inhabitant of tropical to subtropical reefs and lagoons, the Moorish idol is notable for its wide distribution throughout the Indo-Pacific. A number of butterflyfishes (genus Heniochus) closely resemble the Moorish idol.  The Moorish idol got its name from the Moors of Africa, who purportedly believed the fish to be a bringer of happiness. Moorish idols are also popularaquarium fish, but despite their popularity, they are notorious for short aquarium lifespans and sensitivity.

The Moorish Idol is my good-luck fish when SCUBA-diving - they usually swim around in pairs and I've seen them in Hawaii, Australia, Madagascar, the Red Sea and even the Academy of Science in San Francisco.
