You can walk around the Llyn Bach in about 20minutes. The walk provides excellent views of Porthmadog, the Cob embankment carrying the Ffestiniog Railway, Traeth Mawr - the flood plain, Snowdonia`s mountain range and Moel-y-Gest - the hill overlooking Porthmadog.
You can also climb Ynys Tywyn, a small, wooded, rocky knoll offering good views over Porthmadog. At the top there is a sheer cliff from where rock was quarried for the building of the Cob. Be careful of the sudden drop. You do not have to go up there to get the cache.
You can start the walk going anti-clockwise either by the side of Cob Records and across the sluice gates or by following the National Trust footpath sign to Ynys Tywyn, or walk clockwise from the town side of Pont Britannia by the side of the railway tracks or from the car park behind Wilkinsons.
The cache is a bison in the tree.
Parking is available behind Wilkinsons/ Wilko / B&M (turn by the Shell garage)
There are lovely views of Cnicht (the knight) and the Moelwyns across the flood plain. There are plenty of birds here and you might even see the ospreys in the summer. Otters have also been seen nearby.
Bywyd Gwyllt Glaslyn Wildlife is a Community Interest Company manages the (ex-RSPB) Glaslyn Osprey Project and have a facebook site that reports on bird sightings from the Cob.
You can make a short, circular caching trip by getting Mini SideTracked Porthmadog, Dora Fawr, Llyn Bach and Llyn Bach #2 (or detour to Mini SideTracked WHHR). There are other caches in Porthmadog and nearby.
