One more geocache inspired by Lasa Cana's (previously known as HostaHead) Turtle X-ing series caches. This easy walk will take you to Meadow Pond. As Gamera was "the original mutant turtle," this container is bigger than many in the series, plenty of room for swag and trackables.
This cache is located within Cedar Pond, an Essex County Trail Association (ECTA) property co-managed with Massachusetts Audubon. A downloadable trail map is at the Related Web Page link above. Please note the Cherry Street parking on the map is inaccurate, we've added the proper parking waypoints below. These trails loop easily, try to come out a different way than you came in!
On Saturday afternoons in the 1970s, after the morning cartoon block, my brother, mother, and I enjoyed Creature Double Feature on Channel 56. This program introduced us to the "giant monster," or kaiju genre of Japanese films, which featured Godzilla (Gojira), Gamera and Mothra. This cache has been placed next to Meadow Pond, which is just big enough to accommodate a napping kaiju like Gamera. Please be sure to check out our neighboring cache, GC4FEP3 "Attack of the Mushroom People" (visit link) .
Gamera began as a titanic, fire-breathing, prehistoric species of tortoise who fed on petroleum-based material presumably giving him the ability to breathe fire and fly by "jets" ignited when the monster retracts its legs – he can propel itself by spinning through the air with all four legs in and (shown in later films) can fly straight with just the rear legs drawn inside his shell. (visit link) . Guillermo del Toro gave the kaiju genre an update in 2013's film, "Pacific Rim." (visit link)
The container you seek is 7”x7”x2.5” Lock ‘n’ Lock tupperware.
The First-To-Find prize is a little different than our usual leave, a Sacagawea dollar coin that commemorates the Delaware Treaty of 1778. Its reverse design features a turkey, a howling wolf and a turtle, symbols of the clans of the Delaware Tribe and a ring of 13 stars to represent the Colonies. This might be the only time a turtle has been on USA currency! FTF honors again to Geo-Knot, domo arigatou どうも有難う for visiting!
