This cache is a quick drive-by and is situated near to where a small public convenience used to stand. The toilets have since been demolished and some bushes planted in its place.
This cache is placed to commemorate a memory that came to me whilst walking past this area recently. Many years ago I was riding the bus with my mother towards town when the bus stopped at the intersection of Oxford Road and Lancaster Drive. The driver jumped out and I asked where the driver had gone......my mother replied he's gone to 'Spend a Penny'. I was quite bemused as I was young and had not heard of the saying before and I couldn't see a shop anywhere! These days with the rate of inflation it's more like 20-30p to use public toilets, only occasionally finding a special offer........one for free.
