Garwnant Forest is situated just North of Merthyr on the A470, on the banks of the Llwyn-On Reservoir.
The site is run by Natural Resources Wales who have given their kind permission for caches to be placed on this site. There is a visitors centre which is the recommended parking for this series of caches and the numbering starts at the centre. Here you will find parking, a cafe, toilets and childrens playareas. I would strongly recommend Mosi Repelent during the summer season. The recommended parking is at the visitors centre, but there are other parking sites in the area. The route should be a loop, but this is not possible in the truest sense. The return route is along the Taff Trail, but this is a road along the lakeshore, so please be careful if you are with children. You can double back on yourself or you can pick up the path you took out in the way back in. This series of caches starts at the visitors centre and takes you out through the forest to the South. There are more caches planned for the area South of the small road that runs through the forest, but there are plans to carry out further tree cutting in this area at the time of publishing (Feb 2014) so I have held off on these for now. Freya's Squirrels is located near one of the animal sculptures. This cache belongs to Freya, an avid GeoKid.
