This is a beautiful wood on the rocky shoulder of a hill with many mature beech trees clinging to the crags. We first came here while tracking down Holly's Den in 2006, and have returned several times since. It's a great place to explore on a circular walk from Staveley and we thought we'd add another cache here for the Feb 8th '14 event at Wilfs.
A path runs round the top of the wood and the best place to park is Barley Bridge, coming up to the north end of the wood. Alternatively, room for just 2 cars at the south end of the footpath on the sharp corner, coming past Holly's Den.
The cache is hidden in a wide bowl, where a spring flows, and dramatic rocks line the back. Cross the bog, through the undergrowth and arrive at the base of the furry green rocks. Was the area home to strange tribes who ate beans?
