Tallarook is on the northern slopes of the Great Dividing Range, on land that was once central to the territories of the Goulburn Aboriginal tribes, in whose language, Tallarook means ‘call of the wattle birds’. The town is known in Australia for the colloquialism, “Things are crook in Tallarook”, believed to date to the Great Depression and unemployed travellers seeking work. Trawool lies on the middle reaches of the Goulburn River and on the Goulburn Valley Highway. The Trawool Hotel was established at a river crossing site, presumably in the 1870s The site was initially known as 'Traawool', an indigenous word meaning 'wild water', although the spelling had been changed by 1910. The cache is located near the rail trail. BYO pen/pencil
