Geocache Description:

All of the caches are 200mm round screw top plastic containers containing only a log book.

YOU WILL NEED TO BRING A PEN OR PENCIL.

Parking is only really possible in a public car park (no fee) near Ysgol Machreth (Primary School) on the eastern side of Llanfachreth.

This cache is one of 7 additional caches which can be treated either as a shorter option to the Meirionnydd Mountains series which would just involve a 4 mile circuit or if like me you like being out in the hills from dawn to dusk can be done on a single circuit with the MM caches on Rhobell. This would involve an approximately 10 mile walk.

You may well be wondering what on earth sort of name is this for a cache! Well it refers to an hollow tree where the body of Hywel 'Sele' ap Meurig Llwyd ,Lord of Nannau circa 1370-1402, the current estate mansion which can be seen south of Llanfachreth near to the Precipice Walk/ Llwybyr Llyn Cynwch, was reportedly disposed of after he was killed by his cousin Owain Glyn Dŵr after Hywel himself tried to kill Owain whilst they were out shooting deer. Apparently the body was not found for another 40 years and from then on the tree was called Ceubren yr Ellyll (The Demon's Hollow Tree).
The usual precautions will need to be considered before attempting these mountain caches. Strong walking boots, full waterproof clothing, first aid kit and map & compass (and ability to use them in poor visibility) will be needed.
