Geocache Description:

This cache is one of 7 additional caches which can be treated either as a shorter option to the Meirionnydd Mountains series which would just involve a 4 mile circuit or if like me you like being out in the hills from dawn to dusk can be done on a single circuit with the MM caches on Rhobell. This would involve an approximately 10 mile walk. All of the caches are 200mm round screw top plastic containers with only a log book.

YOU WILL NEED TO BRING A PENCIL.

Parking is only really possible in a public car park (no fee) near Ysgol Machreth (Primary School) on the eastern side of Llanfachreth.

Just west of here on the OS map is the name Cae-Hywel which I am assuming refers to Hywel ' Sele' ap Meurig circa 1370-1402, Lord of Nannau. Nannau is the large estate in this area whoose current mansion and farm buildings are situated south of Llanfachreth near the Precipice Walk ( Llwybyr Llyn Cynwch). The original building was burnt down by Hywel Sele's cousin, Owain Glyn Dŵr who was understandably upset when Hywel tried to kill him. What he did not realise was Owain was wearing iron plates under his clothing so survived the shot and then in turn killed Hywel whose body he threw into an hollow tree as described in the description of Ceubren y Ellyll Cache.

The usual precautions will need to be considered before attempting these mountain caches. Strong walking boots, full waterproof clothing, first aid kit and map & compass (and ability to use them in poor visibility) will be needed.
