The Trefforest Trekker
A journey which takes you through a pleasant 3 mile walk over the hills above Trefforest, over to Church Village, Tonteg and back. Expect some great views across the valleys as you endeavor to tackle a selection of interesting Geocaches!
The Series:
Terrain varies from concrete roads, sometimes muddy country paths, fields and pavements. There are some steep hills along the way. Please see Difficulty/Terrain ratings for each cache. If you are doing the whole series the trek should take around 1 to 2 hours to complete depending on your pace.
All these caches can be done as standalone or in order. We suggest you start at number 1 but it's up to you. We hope you enjoy the trail!
Location:
This is a small Multicache to add a little flavour. It's along the route so won't take you anywhere out of the way. Both are along the road so please take care with the traffic.
Cache details:
This is simple 1 stage multi to spice it up a little!
Stage 1: On the telegraph pole is a blue label with holes punched in it about six foot up. Look at what numbers and letters have been punched out. Read from top, left to right.
Given that the numbers are numbers and the letters are: A=1 B=2 C=3 D=4 E=5 F=6 G=7... Z=26
Calculate * % $ + £
* = The second number divided by the first letter.
% = The second number minus the first number.
+ = The second letter minus first letter. THEN take that away from seconded number.
! = Second letter.
£ = The first number divided by first letter.
Final location at: N 51° 34.*%+ W 003° 19.!%£
Once you've found these input them into your device to search for the final container to sign the log. There is no pen/cil in this cache please bring your own.
If you're using the official Geocaching App, to input coordinates:
1. Ensure you device is in 'Navigate to location' mode.
2. Then click the 'Menu' button > Add waypoint > Input coordinate details >done.
3. Open compass > Menu button > Destination. Choose the waypoint you added.
4. Go back to map mode and navigate to the cache.
Directions:
Approaching anticlockwise: Follow the road from 'Stones Throw'
Approaching clockwise: Follow the road up from 'True Grit'
