Roman Aqueduct III

After finding Aqueduct II continue to Aqueduct III. Not as well preserved but still impressing and a lovely ride through the pine forest.

Στη Λέσβο υπάρχει ένα τεράστιο ρωμαικό έργο που κατασκευάστηκε 2000 χρόνια πριν. Όπως αναφέραμε ήδη, στην περιγραφή του GC3DJ18 Roman Aqueduct I, το υδρευτικό δίκτυο του ρωμαϊκού υδραγωγείου της Μυτιλήνης ξεκινούσε από το ποτάμι Ανεράϊδα, που πηγάζει από τη Μεγάλη Λίμνη, κατηφόριζε προς τις πηγές του Τσίγκου και έφτανε στα βόρεια του ποταμού Έθερνου. Το σημείο εδώ είναι από το πρώτο τμήμα της διαδρομής, και συνεχίζει προς το GC3MTD4 Aqueduct II.
Το κατασκεύασαν οι Ρωμαίοι με τα μέσα και εργαλεία που υπήρχαν πριν 2000 χρόνια, και είναι καταπληκτικό, αν σκεφθεί κανείς ότι το σίδερο, το τσιμέντο και το μπετόν αρμέ δεν ήταν η βασική -όπως σήμερα- ύλη για τέτοιου μεγέθους κατασκευές.
Το 100 μΧ που ολοκληρώθηκε, η λίμνη και οι πηγές του αγωγού έδιναν 27.500 κυβικά την ημέρα στην πόλη. Αν προσθέσει κανείς το νερό για το πότισμα των χωραφιών δίπλα στον αγωγό, αντιλαμβάνεται την ποσότητα που μετέφερε.
Η διαδρομή του νερού γινόταν μόνο με φυσική ροή χωρίς επιπλέον κατανάλωση ενέργειας για άντληση και μεταφορά. Η κλίση του ήταν περίπου 50cm ανά χιλιόμετρο διαδρομής. Συνολικά στα 26 χιλιόμετρα του έργου η συνολική κλίση ήταν μόνο 13 μετρα!

As we already mentioned at GC3DJ18 Roman Aqueduct I, the aqueduct started from the river "Aneraida" the way-out of Great lake that rolls out through "Tsigos springs" to the north of the river "Ethernos". This part is a small slice of the beginning workout and continues until GC3MTD4 Aqueduct II
It has been build with tools and media of their era, 2000 years ago, and is amazing! Keep in mind that it was built without steel bars, concrete or "armed concrete", as today's usual mega-structures!
Finished about 100 ac, was supplying the city with 27.500 cubic meters of water every day, plus the in between villages and fields.
The declination is about 50 cm per kilometer or a total of 13 meters in total! That IS design by intelligence!
