28 juni 1914: Aartshertog Frans Ferdinand van Oostenrijk wordt vermoord.
28 juli 1914: Oostenrijk verklaart de oorlog aan zijn kleine buur Servië. WO1 neemt zijn plaats in in de geschiedenis.
4 augustus 1914: Het Duitse leger trekt de Belgische grens over en begint zijn opmars.
14 oktober 1914: De Duitsers staan aan de voordeur van Brugge.
15 oktober 1914: De Duitse bezetting van Brugge is een feit…

De reeks BB4 – WO1 – … neemt jullie mee naar het Brugge tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog.
Aan de hand van foto's krijgen jullie een beeld van de verwoesting. De opgegeven coördinaten plaatsen jullie op de (vermoedelijke) plaats waar de foto werd genomen. Het biedt jullie eveneens de mogelijkheid om de foto's te vergelijken met het heden.

July 28, 1914: Austria declares war on its small neighbor Serbia. WW1 took his place in history.
August 4, 1914: The German army pulls the Belgian border and begins its march.
October 14, 1914: The Germans are at the door of Bruges.
October 15, 1914: The German occupation of Bruges is a fact …

The series BB4 - WW1 - ... takes you back to the Bruges during the First World War.
On the basis of photographs you get a picture of the devastation. Coordinates places you at the (presumed) location where the photo was taken. It also offers you the opportunity to compare the present with the pictures.

BOMBARDEMENT

BOMBING 

Tijdens de nacht van 16 oktober en de morgen van 17 oktober 1917 werd een deel van Brugge zwaar getroffen door een bombardement.
Er vielen 17 doden te betreuren.
Grote delen van de Kwekerstraat (toen Ooievaarsstraat), de Vulderstraat en de Balsemboomstraat werden tot puin herleid.
During the night of October 16 and the morning of October 17, 1917 part of Bruges was devastated by bombing.
There were 17 deaths.
Large parts of the Kwekerstraat (then Ooievaarsstraat), the Vulderstraat and Balsemboomstraat been reduced to rubble.

BALSEMBOOMSTRAAT

Vroeger was de naam van deze straat de Ooievaarsstraat.

COMMEMORATIVE PLATE

Op de hoek van de Baslemboomstraat en de Konfijtstraat vindt je een herdenkingsplaat. Deze plaat werd aangebracht door de bewoners van de Sint-Jozefswijk.
