Geocache Description:

This is one of ten caches placed for the 2014 Cache Across Maryland. Each location was picked specifically to give cachers a taste of the state and show you its beauty. By combining all ten, you'll be able to see why Maryland is truly "America in Miniature". We hope you enjoy them!

Sassafras Natural Resources Management Area is located along the scenic banks of the Sassafras River and Turner's Creek in Kent County and operated by the Maryland State Park Service. The area is noted for the spectacular views of the Sassafras River and Chesapeake Bay from the high banks that face toward the south.

The trail system at Sassafras is open to non-motorized trail users from sunrise to sunset. There are approximately 9 miles of trails that travel through a variety of terrain that include old dirt roads, field edges, and paths within the young forest. Visitors will also find additional trails at Turner’s Creek County Park. The trail systems interconnect near Turner's Creek Road. Trail users can enjoy several scenic vistas that provide views of the Sassafras River and long sloping hillsides of grain fields. A variety of wildlife species such as deer, rabbits, turkey, and many songbirds might surprise quiet hikers and riders who also travel on or across the same paths. Hikers and bike riders are asked to please take care and stay on the trails as the sloping hillsides are prone to erosion.

Cache is located on a flat trail system towards the banks of the Sassafras River. Take the trail that goes straight from the parking lot. It is located within 50 feet of the cliff side so keep an eye on children and dogs. The hike is about 1.2 miles round trip. and the view is spectacular! You are looking for a clear lock-n-lock container.
