Geocache Description:

The cache is placed near the Cossey Dam in the Hunua Ranges. The Cossey Dam is one of the five water catchment dams in the Hunua ranges that supply around 57 per cent of Auckland’s water.

The Cossey/Massey Loop Walk has stunning views of the Hunua valleys, native forest and giant kauri groves.

You can start from the car park near the Hunua Falls. From here it takes around 3-4 hours to cover the 8.3km loop track, good level of fitness is required. The gravel track is steep in places and includes a couple of stream crossings on the Cossey Gorge track, but this is not a problem during dry weather.

Or you can drive up the access road closer to the cache. Please keep an eye on the gate - not sure what time they close it.

Make sure you've cleaned your walking shoes before heading to the Hunua Ranges and help us protect healthy Hunua kauri from kauri dieback disease.

The cache is a a small container with the log in a smaller container and the hole thing sits in a larger Sistema container and hopefully keeps dry this way.
