Jord

In ancient times it was thought that everything was built up of four elements.
The four elements were water, fire, earth and air.
It was thought that each element had its special significance.
Earth
Earth is the first of the four elements. Both the ancient Greeks and the Romans named the planet after it. The Greeks called the Earth for Gaia, the Romans called it Tellus.
All people need earth. It is the one we live in, and it is from the earth we get most of our food. Today we do not notice it because we just buy our food. But the people of the past needed fertile land to grow their crops and let their animals graze on.
Most myths about how mankind was created, says that the first two humans were created from the ground. A god forms them in clay and breathing life into them. When the Christian churches bury the dead, you say: By land you have come to dust you shall return, the earth must again arise.
