'Roman Residence' is steeped in all facets of what makes an urban legend. But we will start with the facts. This enormous house sat empty for quite some time and was recently sold for an undisclosed amount. Approximately 105 sq, this solid concrete home features three levels of living space including formal and informal areas as well as family and rumpus areas, walk in cool room and sauna. There are five spacious bedrooms and study, massive balconies surrounding the house, concrete in ground pool and double garage. There is a large rooftop area with 360 degree views.
Many years ago, it was reportedly an old mafia run house with a 60 car garage. The police apparently raided the property, the owner was apparently jailed and the many many cars were apparently confiscated. From this apparent scandal came the haunted urban legends.
One story is that if you were to be assasinated, you were taken to the tower on the roof and your car was hidden in the large garage complex under the house. The prior owner could very well have been a car salesman who had a personal collection. Regardless of the true story, the urban legends around this place are amazing.
- the lights flash on and off when no one is there.
- If you park in the drive, you may see shadow figures coming towards your car, hear gun shots and yelling.
- at night, lights will go on in the tower and a white figure will walk down the drive to meet you.
- a white figure can be seen inside the windows.
- if you enter the property you will be chased out by men in black, once you reach the gates to get out and you look back, they vanish
Regardless of the urban legends, I can report that when I stopped to place the cache I got out of the car and checked the coordinates and I heard a single gun shot. I asked my kids if they heard it and they hadn't. Then I heard 3 more. However the shots were coming from the property across the road from 'Roman Residence'. So I ignored it :) , placed the cache, walked back to the car....one more gunshot. Got in the car and asked the kids if they had heard that last one. 'What one, what noise?". And I drove off...could have been a barn door banging, could have been a car backfiring, could have been men in black floating in the air across the road to surround me.... urban legends, haunted or not?
