Geocache Description:

This is a puzzle cache.  The cache is not at the listed coordinates.  Please solve the puzzle to find the actual coordinates.

Although the dedicated field puzzle lover might solve this one on foot, most will probably prefer the easy way:  Google Earth.  Below are coordinates for 20 locations west of Portland.  At one of these locations, you will find a clue for the latitude of the cache and at another, a clue for the longitude.  You can either visit each site and hope to spot the clues, or you can eliminate 18 of the locations by puzzling out the list of notes at the end of the listing and then visit only the two that you need.

  • You can copy and paste the coordinates below into Google Earth.

  • Use both the satellite and Street View images, as needed.

  • The clues are not visible in Google Earth.  Once you have determined which sites contain the clues, you will need to visit them non-virtually.

  • When collecting the onsite clues, it would be most efficient to visit the northwestern most of the two first.

  • If you depend on reading glasses, you might be glad to have them.

  • You might encounter a bit of swampiness.  Boots?

The cache is at:

    N    45 32.XXX (Echo 1)

    W 122 53.XXX (Echo 2)

Click here for some pointers on using Google Earth.  When using the Ruler tool, be sure to use the Map Length reading.  To get the most precise position of geocaches, copy and paste the cache coordinates into Google Earth and use that position rather than the one suggested by the Geocache Google Earth Viewer, which tends to jump around a bit.

Please use Wikipedia when possible for looking up facts and figures to ensure a match to my data.

It might be helpful to copy and paste the 20 coordinates into Google Earth and save each as a placemark (Add/Placemark).  Then, you can easily view all the choices as you work through the puzzle, perhaps deleting those that are eliminated as you go.

This puzzle is intended to be fun.  If you get stuck, or need a hint, don't hesitate to email me.  Note:  This cache has been certified as "easy" by the Northwest Society of Geocache Puzzlers and comes with a full money-back guarantee.  If you don't agree with the "easy" certification, please apply for a full refund in your cache log.  The current amount you are eligible to be refunded is listed below:

This cache puzzle is based on Echoes in Salt Lake City, Utah.

__ N 45 32.879  W 122 53.975

And the notes to use.  Each one should eliminate one site:

__ There aren't many roundabouts 'round 'ere, and none at all that contain clues for this puzzle.

__ No clues to be found at Willambia (aka Columette).

__ This is a popular hangout for quinquagenarians and their superiors, but a terribly inferior spot for finding a clue.

__ No worries.  There's no need to visit the cr-p circles.  "Process of elimination" puns need not apply.

__ This site is 39.55 miles from the replica of the Morning Star, but you'd be just as successful looking on a moon made of green cheese for useful clues.

__ It may be tempting to take a blue line to this one, but you'll find no clues near the World's Greatest.

__ The spot precisely betwixt two CrunchyFrog83 traditionals is held in great esteem by those seeking clues.  The fools.

__ Those who visit the former site of the above worthy's second find will come away equally clueless.

__ By connecting GC4P3KA to GC2BZ8J and GC4Q38M to GC3BQNX, a giant international "X" is formed when viewing from an altitude of about 9,000 miles.  The approximate intersection of those lines is right in our backyard, but looking for a clue there would be as useless as searching in Russia, Mexico, Canada or New Zealand.

__ "Cubar cbyr onfr."  (encrypted in a Scotch accent?)  And "mvc" for clues.

__ Do NOT look outside the oldest (haunted?) building in Downtown.  And definitely don't go inside!

__ You will find no clues whatsoever 4,933.25 miles at 321.40 degrees from

__ The building at this site pays unintentional tribute to the Year of the Consulship of Constantius and Albinus (in an upper corner).  The degree to which it pays tribute to this geocache puzzle is absolutely zero.

__ If you are tempted to visit the grounds of the home of the Alma Rose, a very likely-looking spot for a clue, don't.

__ Add 87,045 to get a popular TV show, then multiply by zero to get your chance of finding a clue here.

__ If the Warriors and Wildcats were to call a truce and meet halfway, this would be the spot.  They would come up clueless, however...

__ ...Just as you would at the site of a get-together of those who are maderers by profession, set for August 8-10, 2014.

__ Finally, this would be a great location to visit with your Kooikerhondje, but a terrible place to come up with anything remotely resembling a clue.
