The church was built in 1878 after demolishing the old church due to disrepair, using the timbers from the old church as beams, they raised a tower much higher than the original and a loftier nave, entered through old Norman arches from the South door and tower.
The greatest of the treasures in the church are the Samson Tympanum, as you walk in at the South door it faces you above the door to the belfry. It is a semi-circular carving of breath taking beauty, depicting Samson seated astride a lion and forcing its jaws open with bare hands. It is an example of the work of the mediaeval sculptor known as the Chief Master, working under the patronage of Sir Ralph de Baskerville.
