Geocache Description:

BYO pen for this one

The only remnant in Darwin of the historic Palmerston and Pine Creek railway is the 700m section here at The Narrows.
At GZ there is a mileage marker indicating 5 miles? from Darwin. If you read the information sign a little further away, it states that The Narrows was 4 miles and 6 chains (so just over 4 miles) from the Port of Darwin. This left us wondering 'How Far' it really was from here. Given they can't even spell Palmerston on the sign, that could be the faulty one. Perhaps they need to get out their tape measure to measure it.

Below is a bit of history on this railway line:

The North Australian Railway (as it later become known as) ran from Palmerston (Darwin) in the north to Pine Creek in south. It was 234km (145 miles 78 chains) long, opened on 1.10.1889 and officially closed 14.2.1981.
