The Texas Spirit Quest
is a series of Caches placed by many individuals, near cemeteries and historic sites in hopes of paying respect to the many pioneer ancestors that have ‘walked’ before us.
There are hundreds of cemeteries in the rural communities across Texas. This series will introduce you to many of them. The cache pages will provide a virtual history tour of the cemeteries, tombstones and local lore.
There are as many as 425 interments at this active site, ranging from 1841 (an unusually early date for cemeteries in this stretch of the state) to 2013. Members of the Anderson, Cox, Crippen, Fogle (numerous), Goodman, Johnson, Kincaid, McMullen (also numerous), Neeley, Pendleton, Phelps, Popps, Rawlinson, Reid, Sherry (VERY numerous), Smith, Townsend, and White (numerous) families have been laid to rest here, amongst many, many others.
The site features a historical marker, community center, church, and war memorial in addition to the cemetery itself. The grounds are well maintained and surrounded by a fence. You need not pass through the gate to make this find. As always, any refinements to the listed coordinates are welcomed.
