Geocache Description:

A series of caches in honor of my son the budding zoologist.

Our son has always been an overflowing encyclopedia of animal trivia.  Many long conversations have begun with "Did you know"....(insert obscure fact about any random creature here).  Though I miss those days, our little boy is now almost grown up.  He now volunteers at the San Antonio Zoo as a naturalist and has truly found his calling.  It is hard for me to admit that he will soon be off to college to further his "zoological" studies.

We thought it would be fun to hide "animals" in the "wild" for others to find in the form of unique geocaches.  Each cache represents a different animal and has a unique container with a clue to its identity in the title.  I would like to say that these are "kid friendly", but there is some bushwhacking required.  There is no reason to disassemble the container as each may be opened without taking things apart.  Please place everything back as you found it so that the next cacher may enjoy the surprise.  These are hidden in the Canyon Lake area with some just outside the Joint Base San Antonio Recreational area.  We come here often to tube and fish as we store our boat at the nearby facility.  Rest assured that though some of these caches are near, none are actually inside the military recreational area.  No gates will be crossed and no ID's required.

I hope that my son will at some point add some interesting animal facts to each cach page.  As a child, his hero was in fact Steve Irwin "The Crocodile Hunter".  Steve's tragic death by stingray was certainly devastating to our little guy.  It is thus with a smile that I heard my son navigating our cache hiding adventure with a thick Australian accent.  RIP Mr. Irwin......
