Kamnolom Verd / Verd Quarry Traditional Cache

Zakladek se nahaja izven območja kamnoloma, ki še vedno obratuje, zato ne poskušajte dostopati do njega preko samega kamnoloma!!!

Parkirate lahko na označenih koordinatah (P) in se do zakladka sprehodite po gozdni cesti.

Zakladek vas bo popeljal nad kamnolom Verd, od kjer je prelep razgled na Vrhniko in njeno okolico. Leži ob zahodnem vznožju hriba Javorč ob železniški postaji Verd. Teren kamnoloma je pretežno tipično kraški. Vrtače in razpoke so zapolnjene z rdeče rjavo glino. Po podatkih raziskovalnih vrtin iz leta 1980 je v kamnolomu sivi do temno sivi gosti do drobnozrnati, mestoma oolitni apnenec. Podrejeno je razvit temno sivi, nekoliko bituminizirani apnenec. Spodnje jurski apnenec na območju kamnoloma je sedimentno - kemičnega nastanka v morskem okolju.

Intezivnost pri prizadevanju izkoriščanja mineralnih surovin se je povečala po potresu v Ljubljani leta 1895, saj so želeli iz okolice Vrhnike voziti v Ljubljano gradbeni material za obnovo porušenega mesta. V ta čas sodijo tudi pričetki izkoriščanja v sedanjem kamnolomu Verd. Deželni zbor je leta 1895 odobril finančna sredstva za pripravljalna dela za izgradnjo železniške proge Verd - Ljubljana. Tako se je pričela eksploatacija za potrebe železnic in gradbeništva v ožji in širši okolici, najprej v manjšem obsegu, po pričetku gradnje železniške proge Trst - Ljubljana pa v večjem obsegu.

Kamnolom je aktiven še danes.

Cache will take you to above the quarry Verd, from where there is a magnificant panoramic view of Vrhnika and it's surroundings. It lies at the western foot of the hill Javorč, at the railway station Verd. The terrain of the quarry is mostly typical karst. Sinkholes and cracks are filled with red-brown clay. According to the research of the drill holes in 1980, the quarry has gray to dark gray, dense to fine-grained, in some places oolite limestone. Subsidiary has developed dark gray, slightly bituminous limestone. Lower Jurassic limestone in the quarry area is sediment - chemical occurrence in the marine environment.

The intensity of effort mineral extraction has increased after the earthquake in Ljubljana in 1895, because they wanted to get building materials from the surrounding of Vrhnika to Ljubljana for the reconstruction of the demolished town. At this time the exploitation in the current quarry Verd began. Provincial Assembly in 1895 approved funding for the preparatory work for the construction of the railway line Verd - Ljubljana. Thus began the exploitation of railroads and construction of narrower and wider surroundings, first to a lesser extent and after the start of construction of the railway line Trieste - Ljubljana in a larger extent.
