This is the first in a new series of caches. It pays homage to the Motorway Madness, etc. series, but celebrates handy cut-throughs for those on foot, bike, pushchair, etc. A lot of caches are placed on/near footpaths, but this series is only for those based specifically on cut-throughs in urban locations. Of course, we do not wish to cause any alarm, so footpaths with houses are also excluded; anyway, if there's somewhere to go it's more of a destination than a cut-through!
In honesty we are not expecting this series to expand across the nation, but you are welcome to continue the series or reuse the idea (in as much as it is an idea). We hope to place more ourselves, too.
While there is an element of humour in honouring cut-throughs, some are rather pretty and others offer a new way of discovering an area. We hope you enjoy visiting them.
Being the first in a series, this cache location is a little special. The name refers to the "cut", i.e. canal, and the cache is near the lock (the only one for miles in either direction) and wharves above and below the lock. There are refreshments available nearby, and just a little further away, children's play area, shops and other caches :-)
However, back to the theme. The towpath can also be used as a cut-through. This particular location links Frome Road to the C&RT car park at the end of Bailey's Barn.
This cache is now a bison tube with no room for even a pencil - please bring your own. The area is very busy with people passing and hanging around, especially at the weekends and in summer. However, there is plenty to look at near GZ to help avoid suspicion, so please be patient.
Due to the new location of the cache we have now removed the wheelchair-friendly attribute, sorry.
Finally, a quick reminder that there's a car park in one direction and a canal in the other, so please do be careful with any mini-cachers, but many families (including the 4boas) use this cut-through safely!
Congratulations to antpeng who was FTF all four (so far)!
