Geocache Description:

This cache is hidden close to Turlough round tower. It was built on part of a monastic site possibly dating from 441 and having connections with St Patrick.

Nothing remains of these earlier buildings. The tower itself was built in the early medieval period. Directly adjacent to it is another ruin of an 18th century church built by the Fitzgeralds. There is a crucifixion plaque dated 1625 built into the wall.

This is a slightly unusual looking round tower as it is not a tall as most at just under 23m and it has a 5.5m diameter making it look squat.

The container is a preform’ tube’ with room for log and pencil only.
