A bit about Whitley:  The hamlet of Whitley has some very good views of the valley and is brilliant for a countryside walk yet still being near the town.  Whitley has changed a great deal over the years, and although it has lost its school, post office, and blacksmiths, it attracts thousands of visitors a year. The community centre is the focal point of village life, There is still some farming going on in Whitley but not as much as there used to be in the days when farms were passed from father to son.  There was also mining in Whitley.
