We headed down to Constitution Lake for the afternoon, prepared to drop off a unique cache container along a not-so-well-known trail in this wild, swampy woods. Start from the parking area (waypoint provided), a little west from the start of the concrete pathway heading to the lake. There is a trailhead right off the parking lot which will lead you along a sometimes muddy, swampy trail around the west and south side of the eponymous "lake". You won't hear banjos dueling in this area, but you probably will hear the traffic from Moreland and the neighboring truck depots.
This area is ripe for CITO, so bring a trash bag with you and lend a hand. We did on the way to hiding this cache and quickly had a full bag. If you continue beyond GZ, you can trek down to the South River (which is more like a creek and is sadly in desperate need of cleanup as well). You can also follow the trail further on to the south side of the lake where it sort of just fades away into the swamp. We could find no good way forward, so we backtracked to the parking lot.
There are lots of surveyor flags along the trail to help you find your way. Hopefully this trail will get developed and connect in either to the rest of the Constitution Lake trail or even to the South River Trail further east.
I shot numerous coordinates and averages, but got several different results. I am not too concerned that you folks will miss the cache...it's practically waving a red flag at you to find it! Please return the log to the orientation and position in which you found it.
