Geocache Description:

This will be a series of 9 groups, each have 3 parts for a total of 27 caching hides.  The Title of the series is LESSONS IN COLOR.

You will be looking for a 4 oz. pill bottle.

In developing this Series, I was prompted to actually research what do the colors really mean. I have always like etymology, but more than that, I like the phrases, idioms and expressions that really have their roots from something more than just commonplace current day usage.

This is not intended to actually be complete by any means since most words have meanings rooted deep in history that may have changed through the years and also crosses cultures in their meanings.….this has been just a method for developing a new hiding series for our area (that will be a little unusual).

I, the CO, am the lecturer and the leader of this field trip down Highway 63 in Union County.  The family PEZ has agreed to provide my students for this adventure.  At the end of each group will be my party planner to provide the final color connection who may provide treats or favors to take home or just to take it easy.

There will be some differences but also sameness.  The camo and visibility will be different and finding should be very easy so just enjoy the idea.

So, here we go………By the way----at the bottom will be other information you might be interested in.

RED is the color of blood, rubies and strawberries.  It is commonly associated with danger, sacrifice, passion, fire, beauty, anger, Christmas, socialism, communism and in many other cultures, happiness.

The shades of RED vary from scarlet (color worn by a cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church); vermilion (in some cultures indicating marriage); crimson, the emblem color of Harvard University; ruby, the color of a cut and polished gemstone.

In early archeological days, a color known as ochre, a clay-colored RED by iron oxide.  RED ochre has been used as a cosmetic for cheeks and lips and henna to color hair and paint nails.

RED also has negatives associated, i.e. heat, destruction and evil.  Despite negativity, in religious symbolism, RED was adapted as a color of majesty and authority and used in sacred rituals.  As a painting medium, RED was used to draw the attention of the viewer to something specific.

RED has become a symbol of liberty and personal freedom, being the color of revolution in the 20th century.  In Chinese philosophy, RED was one of the world’s composition of five elements, that of fire. The most common synthetic food coloring today is RED.

RED is the color most associated with courage, a symbol of martyrs and sacrifice.  RED is the love color, associated with joy, well-being, celebration and ceremony.  We all know of the RED carpet for welcoming VIPs, is the traditional color of seats in opera houses and theaters.  Academic gowns in many universities are in the RED shades.  In China, RED is the color of good fortune and prosperity and the color most worn by brides.  In Christian countries, we see Santa sporting a lot of RED.

It is also most frequently associated with hatred, anger, aggression and war but also with passion and heat.  RED is the traditional color of warning and danger, RED flags were flown by castle defenders and warships.  In early days of motor cars, a man with a RED flag had to precede the cars who would warn horse-drawn vehicles.  RED is the international color of stop signs and stop lights.

RED attracts the most attention, heightens visibility, proximity and is liked by extroverts, showing dynamism and activity. It is also associated with seduction, sexuality, eroticism and immorality, anger, sin and the devil.  The Antichrist appears as a RED monster and the woman dressed in RED (scarlet) is known as the whore of Babylon.  Wrath (RED) is one of the seven deadly sins.

USMC Band wears RED, reverse of the uniforms of the other soldiers in their unit.  RED is used for other things within NATO command. RED is also the most common colors on national flags. RED also differentiates Republican states from the blue Democratic states.

Many idioms use connotations of RED:

To see RED (to be angry or aggressive); To have RED ears/RED face (to be embarrassed); To paint the town RED (have a good time out at night); To raise a RED flag (a problem); like a RED flag to a bull (causes to be enraged); To be in the RED (losing money); a RED letter day (something important); To print in RED ink (for emphasis); To catch RED handed (in the act of doing something wrong); To tie up in RED tape (excessive bureaucratic regulation); RED herring (false clue); RED hot (looking good-standing out); REDlight districts (areas for women of the night.) All of these idioms have usage that began with certain identifiable practices in etymology.

It is a common belief in the US that RED cars are stopped for speeding more often than any other color. There is no statistical evidence that this is true.  Police officers certainly refute that.

SOME AREAS WILL HAVE RECOGNIZABLE PULL-OFFS. MOST DO NOT. HOWEVER, THE SHOULDERS ARE WIDE AND SOLID.

CACHES IN THE LECTURES WILL MOSTLY BE HANGING BUT NOT ALL.

CACHES IN THE STUDENT SECTIONS WILL ALL BE HANGING.

CACHES IN THE FINAL COLOR CONNECTION WILL MOSTLY BE LOW, BUT NOT ALL.

THERE WILL NOT BE TOO MANY HINTS IN THE ENTIRE 27 CACHES OF THE SERIES.  COLOR WILL MOSTLY SAY IT ALL.

Congrats to gmcsac for FTF.
