This cache is to get eyes on downtown Clovis, NM. It is a really strange place now- Abandon storefronts everywhere and three theatres that in their day, were probably beautiful. Now it all sits abandoned and derelict. It’s almost eerie. So much potential to be a fun place to go, but without a single bar, evening retailer, reputable evening restaurant, pool hall or bowling alley on this main drag, it seems to have shut down one night and never re opened. In the last year there have been a few attempts to revitalize it with overpriced lofts, but people want more than a place to sleep, they want things to do… So here sits a cache hoping for the city to WAKE UP. Restrictions on liquor licenses and where a place can and can’t serve (the town says no alcohol within 1 mile of a church) is archaic and damaging to the economy. I love the people of the town, but wish better for it.
From the cache you will be in front of one of the theatres and the other two flank you on the opposite end of the street. They look so neat with their vintage exteriors. Down the way you will see the Hotel Clovis and beyond that, a very neat sign for the Sante Fe rail yard. Take it in. It could have been something really neat.
Please use caution if you bring kids to this one and have them go no further than the parking spots.
