In 1927 Puriri Drive was planted with 250 puriri (Vitex lucens), as well as plantings kauri (Agathis australis), kohekohe (Dysoxylum spectabile), tanekaha (Phyllocladus trichomanoides), totara (Podocarpus totara), and taraire (Beilschmieda tarairi).
Puriri (Vitex lucens) is an evergreen tree endemic to New Zealand. (The genus Vitex, formerly assigned to family Verbenaceae, has recently been reassigned to family Lamiaceae.)
