FTOC 091.5E Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Itchyfeet2wander: We planned to hike the southern end of this E section of FTOC caches and replace all melted or burned containers. But....the burn was two weeks ago and there is no brush left to hide anything in. Also, there was a large tree about .25 miles from the parking area which was still smoldering, smoke coming up from its base. We walked over to check it and there were actually flames burning at the base of the tree. We didn't feel safe hiking any further, would hate to get trapped by a fire and have to jump into the lake with the gators!! Don't want that to happen to anyone else either so we are archiving these caches and when the brush grows up enough we will try to hide some more. Sorry.....IF2W

Geocache Description:

Proud Members Of

FTOC stands for Florida Trail Ocala Challenge.  We have put out lots of these caches in segments of A, B, C, D, E and F.  This particular section (E) was rerouted by the Florida Trail Association.recently in order to take the trail farther away from the bombing range.  So we have hiked the new route and placed new caches all along the trail….January 2014.    Take water, sunscreen, bug spray, snacks and please watch for the orange paint marks on the trees to indicate that you are on the right path.  Most of the caches are preforms with orange or white tops, easy to find.

This segment of the Florida Trail is just a little over 5 miles, well-populated with caches.  Have fun!!
