116-COLOR BLUE - Lecture Traditional Cache

This will be a series of 9 groups, each have 3 parts for a total of 27 caching hides.  The Title of the series is Lessons in Color.

In developing this Series, I was prompted to actually research what do the colors really mean. I have always like etymology, but more than that, I like the phrases, idioms and expressions that really have their roots from something more than just commonplace current day usage.

You will be looking for a 4 oz. pill bottle.

This is not intended to actually be complete by any means since most words have meanings rooted deep in history that may have changed through the years and also crosses cultures in their meanings.….this has been just a method for developing a new hiding series for our area (that will be a little unusual).

I, the CO, am the lecturer and the leader of this field trip down Highway 63 in Union County.  The family PEZ has agreed to provide my students for this adventure.  At the end of each group will be my party planner to provide the final color connection who may provide treats or favors to take home or just to take it easy.

There will be some differences but also sameness.  The camo and visibility will be different and finding should be very easy so just enjoy the idea.

BLUE is most commonly associated with harmony, faithfulness and confidence. BLUE is the color of the clear sky and the deep sea.  In Egyptian history, BLUE was considered a protection of the dead against evil in the afterlife and was also the dye color used for the cloth to wrap mummies.  BLUE has been associated with divinity and protection against evil or misfortune.

BLUE is the color of the working class clothing, considered the color of mourning but also considered the color of barbarians back in Julius Caesar’s day as faces were dyed BLUE to frighten their enemies as well as tinting their hair BLUE when they grew old.

BLUE was the color worn by Christians and Jews as well as the poor. BLUE played no part in the rich costumes of the clergy or architecture or decoration of churches.  BUT then things changed and BLUE became a marvel of color in elegant stained glass windows of the churches and later became a luxury color for Kings and Princes of Europe. Once Kings adopted this color, it then became the color of the wealthy and powerful. Even the “license” to use BLUE as a dye could only be done by a specific guild with others suffering severe penalty.

In the 18^th century, a BLUE uniform became a symbol of liberty and revolution and is still the color of the dress uniform of the U.S. Army.  In the 19^th century, it increasingly became the color of government authority…policemen and other public servants.  It was considered serious and authoritative without being menacing.  BLUE has been adopted as the color of important international organizations.

BLUE is used to create a fantastic and exotic atmosphere, to symbolize spirituality and eternity and just to inspire ideas and emotions. With the dawn of the WWW, BLUE has become the standard color of hyperlinks in browsers.

BLUE eyes do not actually contain any BLUE pigment.  It all has to do with the scattering of light within the iris.  When an animal’s coat is described as BLUE, it usually refers to a shade of gray that has taken on a bluish tint, a diluted variant of a pure black coat.

In World Culture, BLUE can often represent the human emotion of sadness (feeling BLUE); can sometimes represent happiness and optimism (BLUE skies); someone who is naïve (with a BLUE eye); the color of mourning; villainous characters; nobility and affluence; house of death; those born on a Friday; symbolizing boys (males used to be symbolized by pink-but that’s another story); trigger of depressive emotions.

In Politics, BLUE has been as a disparaging reference to rigid moral codes and those that observed them (BLUE-stocking); represented certain party affiliations; American Revolution patriots; BLUE states (states that vote traditionally Democratic), BLUE law (restriction on Sunday shopping) and many others.

In Music, there are the BLUEs; BLUE note, BLUEgrass.

Other idioms:

True BLUE – faithful and loyal

In weddings – something old, something new, something borrowed, something BLUE as a sign of loyalty and faithfulness.

In Education – BLUE sashes for academic occasions, BLUE ribbons for awards of excellence.

BLUE chip stocks – those with reputation for quality and reliability in good times and bad (comes from poker, where the highest value chips are BLUE.

BLUE blood – member of the nobility

BLUE jeans and BLUE collar – referring to the color of working costumes for those in either skilled or unskilled jobs, work with their hands and do not wear business suits.

BLUE – associated with cold water taps – water lines today marked with BLUE paint

BLUEstocking – unflattering expression in the 18 century for upper-class women who cared about culture and intellectual life and disregarded fashion.  It originally referred to men and women who wore plain BLUE wool stockings instead of the black silk stockings worn in society.

Having the BLUEs – associated with melancholy.

SOME AREAS WILL HAVE RECOGNIZABLE PULL-OFFS.  MOST DO NOT. HOWEVER, THE SHOULDERS ARE WIDE AND SOLID

CACHES IN THE LECTURES WILL MOSTLY BE HANGING BUT NOT ALL.

CACHES IN THE STUDENT SECTIONS WILL ALL BE HANGING.

CACHES IN THE FINAL COLOR CONNECTION WILL MOSTLY BE LOW, BUT NOT ALL.

THERE WILL NOT BE TOO MANY HINTS IN THE ENTIRE 27 CACHES OF THE SERIES.  COLOR WILL MOSTLY SAY IT ALL.
