Geocache Description:

This will be a series of 9 groups, each have 3 parts for a total of 27 caching hides.  The Title of the series is Lessons in Color.

In developing this Series, I was prompted to actually research what do the colors really mean. I have always like etymology, but more than that, I like the phrases, idioms and expressions that really have their roots from something more than just commonplace current day usage.

You will be looking for a 4 oz. pill bottle.

This is not intended to actually be complete by any means since most words have meanings rooted deep in history that may have changed through the years and also crosses cultures in their meanings.….this has been just a method for developing a new hiding series for our area (that will be a little unusual).

I, the CO, am the lecturer and the leader of this field trip down Highway 63 in Union County. The family PEZ has agreed to provide my students for this adventure. At the end of each group will be my party planner to provide the final color connection who may provide treats or favors to take home or just to take it easy.

There will be some differences but also sameness. The camo and visibility will be different and finding should be very easy so just enjoy the idea.

So, here we go……………By the way----at the bottom will be other information you might be interested in.

GREEN is the color most commonly associated with nature, springtime, hope, the environmental movement (GREENpeace, GREEN parties), Ireland, Islam, spring, hope and envy.  Hope represents the faith that things will improve after a period of difficulty much like the renewal of flowers and plants after the winter season. Also associated in Europe and U.S. Old terms for GREEN are derived from words for fresh, sprouting vegetation.  Cave paintings do not have even traces of GREEN pigments.  There is a close connection between GREEN, for vegetation, vigor and growth because GREEN was the symbol of good health and rebirth.  Aside from chlorophyll, the GREEN pigment of growing grass and leaves, GREEN pigments are rather rare in nature.  Animals typically use the color GREEN as camouflage. Humans have imitated this by wearing the GREEN clothing in the military and hunting. Most fish, reptiles, amphibians and birds appear GREEN because of certain light reflections coming through certain pigments.

It was the color of Venus, the goddess of gardens, vegetables and vineyards.  GREEN was the color worn by merchants versus that worn by nobility and peasants.

Many cities have designated a garden or park as a GREEN space and use GREEN trash bins and containers.

GREEN is also used to describe anyone young, inexperienced analogous to immature and unripe fruit.  GREEN cheese (fresh, unaged), GREENhorn (an inexperienced person) GREEN M&Ms were considered an aphrodisiac even though they are identical to the others.

In Middle Eastern and SE Asian cultures, GREEN can represent love but also the base, natural desires of man.  Can be used to describe something erotic and for adulterous relationships, some spouses may wear a GREEN hat.  Prostitutes were called “the family of the GREEN lantern” and her husband had to wear a GREEN headscarf.   In legends and folk tales, fairies, dragons, monsters and the devil are often depicted as GREEN. In Irish and English folklore, GREEN was sometimes associated with witchcraft.  An Irish fairy (leprechaun) portrayed wearing a GREEN suit.

GREEN is often connected with horror or ghost stories and with corpses. In the Bride of Frankenstein, the monster had a GREEN face.  Dracula in an early Broadway state production wore GREEN makeup.  Just like a lot of other colors, GREEN has had opposite associations – good health/toxicity and poison.

GREEN can communicate to proceed safely.  GREEN and red were standardized as colors of the international railroad signals.  Red chosen largely because of high visibility.  GREEN chosen because it could not be mistaken for red.  It is associated with status and prosperity worn by those wealthy but not in the nobility.  Benches in the House of Commons in the U.K. are colored GREEN.

GREEN is connected to the dollar bill, the color of Pentecost, a Christmas color, the color of Catholicism. Gambling tables, tennis courts, ping-pong tables, billiards tables are traditionally GREEN.  Hunter GREEN was worn by hunters in the 19th century, common color for sports teams.

Other idioms and expressions we’ve heard are:

Having a GREEN thumb; GREEN-eyed monster, GREENmail (finance), GREEN room, GREENwashing (promoting positive environmental practices as a cover-up), GREEN around the gills.

SOME AREAS WILL HAVE RECOGNIZABLE PULL-OFFS.  MOST DO NOT. HOWEVER, THE SHOULDERS ARE WIDE AND SOLID

CACHES IN THE LECTURES WILL MOSTLY BE HANGING BUT NOT ALL

CACHES IN THE STUDENT SECTIONS WILL ALL BE HANGING

CACHES IN THE FINAL COLOR CONNECTION WILL MOSTLY BE LOW, BUT NOT ALL

THERE WILL NOT BE TOO MANY HINTS IN THE ENTIRE 27 CACHES OF THE SERIES.  COLOR WILL MOSTLY SAY IT ALL.

Congrats to arkfiremedic for FTF.
